"I did four years of research, but I couldn't bother to get anyone autistic involved, except autism speaks and that was after the film was finished." https://t.co/jIluHbmrCk

Autism speaks came on board long after the film was finished, four years in fact. I had no idea it was such a polarizing group!

This is a response? If you were truly researching then you’d know how autistic people feel about autism speaks. 🤔🤔🤔 https://t.co/GetLlcsmvE

It’s bad enough to work with autism speaks but Sia’s movie also looks incredibly stupid lol

Seems Sia did this thing, some people associated with it spotted there might be an issue, and thought “let’s see if we can get some autism organisations to back us up now we made it” and the only one who would is the hate organisation Autism Speaks.

Cool. Cool cool cool cool.
Not to mention that she is apparently defending these choices based on consulting with Autism Speaks, which is a known anti-autistic hate group, despite superficial reforms in recent years, and which even if you didn't realize that, is still not run by actually autistic people.

Sia: I did three years of intensive research into autism!

Also Sia: I had no idea Autism Speaks was controversial
... one of these statements is a lie.
Autism Speaks was not involved in the casting or production of the film, “Music.” Representation matters, and we believe autistic actors should always be given opportunities to play autistic characters.

Fun quick facts.

Sia is one of those "I don't say disabled, you're differently abled and special" types.
She's a supporter of Autism Speaks.
She refused to cast a non verbal autistic actor because doing so "would be cruel"
